What are you most afraid of? What do you do to deal with this fear?

I most afraid of thing is the time because we can not control it. Time is the thing we cannot touch, change, or see it. The time is always keep going and going, and we cannot stop it. Even you just stand on one place and do not do anything, but the time is still going. When the time gone, and it is gone. We cannot take back the time, so when it loses it then we lose it. We cannot control time, so I think how to use the time to do something make you happy is very important. This is good way to deal with this fear because even we did not do anything, and the times will still going. If we do something that can make us happy and even the time was gone, but we have can got something fun in those time. So I think how to spent the time is very important, that can help us to got more fun. Also how to spent time to do thing is important too because we cannot change it after we do that thing. If you do something wrong and you need spent more time to fix it out that problem. So before we do anything, we need to think about is that thing we can do or not. I am afraid time, but I think how to spent time is another way to deal with.

What do you like must about the town where you live / or your hometown? What would you change about it?

I am come from Taiwan, and my hometown is Taipei. I like my hometown because it is a big city, and also my hometown is the good place. There have many places we can go, like the supermarket, department store, and many stores. Also my hometown has good transport facilities, so that people can easy go any place. But there have something that I do not like it, so if I can I want to change about it. Because we have many cars and motorcycles are going on the road, so the air is very bad. If I want to change, and I want people can use the transport a lot. Then there will not have a lot of cars and motorcycles are going on the road, so that can help the air be better. We can grow more trees and flowers because my hometown has many building, so we can not easy see the trees and flower. Also trees and flowers can help the air be better, so that it why I want to grow trees and flowers. I like my hometown because we can do a lot of things. It is not like Chico is a quite city because my hometown is a business city, so we can see many transport facilities are going on the road. I hope when I go back to my hometown, and there have some new thing will showing up.

What three things would you bring with you to a deserted island? Why?

I will bring three things to a deserted island are food, water, and knife. I think those are important things for me. Why I will choose those three things because those are thing I really need to use. Food is important thing because we need eat food. Water this is more important then food because if we did not have water then we will tied. Food and water are things we always need it. Also when we first time go to the island, and we do not know anything. So we need to bring food and water to make us life, then we can try to find the food and water on the island. How about the third thing I choose and the thing I choose is knife. Why I choose the knife because it can help me easy to cute thing. Like we can cute the stick because we can easy make the fire when the stick is more short and small. Also knife can help me to kill some animal because that is only why I can get the meet, and sometime knife can help me easy to cute the meet that I can easy to cook then make the food. Those are the reason why I will pick food, water, and knife when I go to the deserted island.

If you had the time to volunteer, where would you volunteer? What would you do? Why? (If you do volunteer work, describe what you do!)

Describe a time when you had to make a difficult decision. What did you do? How did you choose?

It is not easy to build a new computer because it needs times to choose the thing. When I want to build a new computer, it was spent me a lot of time to pick the part I need. Computer has many parts we need to see, like the CPU, motherboard, memory card, and the video card. There have many things we need to think about it because the different thing can support different part. Like the CPU there have many types we can choose, like the CPU 46 or the new CPU Core 2 Duo. The CPU speed is totally different, so of course the CPU Core 2 Duo is faster then the CPU 46. When I want to build a new computer, I had to think about which CPU I want to use. It was take me for a long time because Core 2 Duo speed is faster the 46, but the price Core 2 Duo is expensive then 46. After few days I asked to my friend, and want him to help me also teaching me how to make a good choose. He spent a lot of time to teach me how to make a good choose, and told me go to see the reviews. That can help me a lot, and it will tell me more information about the thing. So now I can easy to choose the good thing by myself.

If you had the power to change the law, what law(s) would you change? Why?

Describe your dream vacation. Use as much detail as possible.

My dream vacation is going back to my country because I was leaved my hometown about two years ago. I was missing my country food, and also my friends. My country has some rule that I can not easy go back. The rule is when the people were not a student then they need to go to arm after eighteen years old. And there is some tricky part in my country because our government did not agree Butte College is a University school. That is why my dream vacation is going back to my country, and also I want to do anything I want in my hometown. Go to eat much food as many as I can, and try to find how different about American foods and my country foods taste. Even I went to Sacramento to ate Chinese food, but the true is there had something taste was totally different. The taste was good in Sacramento, but I still like my hometown taste. Also I want to go to meet my friends, and they all study in University too. Of course I will ask them how are they going, and also I want to try to know how different about American University and my country University. I am missing my country now, and also there have many things that I really want to see or eat again.

What will life be like 20 years from now? What will you be doing?

How has the world changed since you were a child? Are these changes good or bad?

The world is changing fast, and everything is changing by day and day. When the new thing comes, then the old thing will be drop. Computer is the thing who change very fast because the new technology will be coming everyday. I have a friend he told me he bought a new computer, and the CPU was very expensive. He was very angry after few days because the CPU that he bought the price are being cheap. Just few days the new CPU is coming, so the CPU price is change very fast. I think the work is being change better, and also those technologies are helping us. We can not easy go another country for trip before because it will take long time for transform. But now we have airplane that can easy to take us to any country. I think the computer is the important technology for us because it helps us a lot. Because the computer so we can do things more easy and fast. When we do not have computer before, we can not easy go to internet to search the thing we need. Also we can not easy to send or get E-mail to friends, so we have to wait few days to wait the mail come. So I think computer is the important technology for us because it really helps us a lot. The world is change faster because the new technology, and also the new technology can help us to do any thing to be easy and fast.

Write about a favorite memory from your childhood.

My favorite memory is fishing because it is the most fun I can get. Begin though out the fishing pole until I get the fish. Each part has different feeling. First I become excited, then quite, then happy. I feel excited before I cast the fishing pole because I did not know if I can or can not catch the fish. Then I feel calm while I watch the fishing pole until I got the fish. Usually people feel bored because they can not do anything when they are waiting for the fish, so people will quit. But they will be happy after they catch the fish; the feeling is very cool. When I catch a fish, the fish will try to get away. I have to try to get it and be careful, so the feeling is very happy. When the fish eats the bait, then fishing line is moving fast. I have to try to get the fish out of the water, so I need to hurry to reel in the line. When the fish gets out of water, the feeling is very happy and excited. I like the feeling when the fish eats the bait then wants to try to get a way. I have to fight with the fish, and make sure it dose not go. I am enjoying all the process, and always can not forget all the feeling. I want to fish again, and go with my friends.

Describe a "perfect weather" day. What would you do on a day like this?

Perfect weather every body like, but any people have different idea about the weather. For me the perfect weather is sunny day, and I like there have some cold wind that can make me comfortable. I think the season is like middle of spring time because the weather is being well. The sun is not hot, and also has some cold wind. It is the great weather. Because the great weather, of course I have to do something to join it. I will go to the mountain with my friends, and then sit on the grown to feel the great wind. Also there have many flowers and trees because is spring time, so they are just staring to grow up. I will to find the river to play the water, and the feel will be perfect. Then I want to take a nap because that can help me to relax and forget anything. I hope my dream weather can hurry to come, so that I can enjoin my dream weather.

What is your definition of love?

What is worth fighting for?

The worth is fighting for people thinking. There is no really answer for worth because people have different idea when people are looking for same thing. The worth just comes from how is people think about, so we can not say who is right or wrong. When there is one cent on the ground, how the people are thinking for this one cent. There have many kind of answer people will think about. For usual people there will think it is just one cent so it is nothing why I have to think about. For this kind of people, they want to get the thing that can equal he spend the time. So they think that one cent is nothing because it is not equal his time to pick up. But for another kind of people there want to get anything as they can. Why they want to do it because many little thing to put together, then there can to be a big thing. If one day they can get one cent for one hour, then one day they can get twenty-four cent, and one month they can get seven dolors. Those moneys are come form free, and do not need to pay the tax. That is why I said worth is fighting for people thinking, and it is always depend on how people looking for the thing.

Describe someone who you is close to you. What do you admire most about this person?

I have a friend, and he is very good to me. When I have any problem or questions, he always will help to me. He told to me lot computer stuff, sometimes he will show me how is different program works. I remember when the first time he told me about the computer, and he gave me a computer want me to build it and setup the XP. I went home try a lot of times, but I still can not put the XP in the computer. I think this problem for few days, but I still can not fix it. I gave up and want him to tell me the answer. He was laughing when I told to him, and he said I will be very mad after he shows me the answer. He showed me the entire step, and make sure I can understand all things. Everything was good, and there did not have any problem. When we looked at the CD- ROM, there was a problem came. We put in the CD, but the computer can not loading it. Now I knew what it the problem because the CD-ROM was broken. After that he told me, he knew I can easy setup the XP. But he want to told me is do not easy to believe the people how give you the things because we did not knew is the thing work or not. So we had to make sure everything was being well when we get the thing. He is very good to me, and every time when he give me something to do. He will always tell to me the reason and want me to remember also be careful those problems.

I felt very sad before because I failed a test. That math test was our final, so it was important for us. It will heart out great, and show us can we past the class or not. I spend a lot of time to study the math test, but I saw the score after the test. When I saw my score, I was can not believed my eyes. I looked at my score for few minute, and I told myself it was not the true. I check and check because I want to know what going on. The score was right because I had many mistake. I was very quick, and I can not hear any sound even my friend call me. Then I sited on the chair and closed the eyes. I was very confusion because I can not pass the class. I tried to tell myself to be come down because maybe there have some ways that can help me to past the test. I went to office, and told the teacher what happen. The teacher was very surprise my test this time was not well, so we told for few minute. The teacher helps me to check all the semester score I had, and told me do not worry because my total score was enough to pass the class. I was very happy when I heard pass the class, but next time I will do my best to pass the test.

3. Write about a process that was new for you. You might write about the first time you registered for college classes, went through Customs in a foreign country, were prepared for surgery, or took a medical test that required local or general anesthesia.

I am not American people, so it is not easy for me to study in university. This is my first semester study in Butte College, and every thing is hard to me. When I came here for first day, the first class is Health. The feeling was excited and nerves because I did not know how American is teach style. Of course language is English, so for American people is easy to understand. For me it is hard to understand and study. The language is totally different, so I need to spend more time to study. I opened the health text book, and it made me headache. There are many words inside, and they have many words I never see before. I think for American people to study one chapter, maybe they just need half hour. But for me maybe need more then hour because I have to understand what is the entire chapter talking about. I need to use the dictionary to transfer the word, and make sure hold the sentence I can understand. Just this part I have to spend a lot of time, and then I have to study again. Total the time is very terrible, but I think the time can be shorter after few months. Because I learn more words, then I can easy understand what it is talking about. I will keep study, and then I can be better after few months.

When Words Get in the Way

2. If you moved to the United States after you learned to speak English in another country, write a paragraph about four or five American words or phrases that confused you.

My language is totally different than English, so there have are words which make me confused. Blue- tooth, CD or DVD, table those are different words for my language, but they have some funny stuff inside.
The word Blue-tooth is popular now because people are using this technology. We direct transition of English word to Chinese word. Blue is mean color, in Chinese we say “ran”. Tooth is mean teeth, in Chinese we say “ya”. This is one type of English word we change directly into our language.
The word CD or DVD we use those words a lot, even in my country. We have other names for these words, but CD and DVD are easy to say. When you say CD or DVD, everybody will know what you mean.
The word table this word totally different then our language, and even the word pronoun are not same. These kinds of words we only can remember how to say in English and how to spell those words.
The language of a different country is not easy to learn, but I think it is very interesting to learn other language.

Describe your dream job what would you do in this position? What would you enjoy about it?

I like computers, so I am learning about computer skill. I like computers not only for playing games; I also want to know about how they work. I have a friend whose computer skill is very good, and I am learning the computer skill with him. He teaches me how to make computer run fast, and he told me how to fix the computer. Because he teaches me, so that make me more interested about the computer. Of course my dream job is working in a big computer company. My friend worked in Apple before, and he told me about this big company. He opened the iPod to show me how it looked inside and told me how the iPod worked. When I was listening to his story about how he worked in Apple, my mind was very excited.
I told myself keep to learning and studying so that I can try to go to big company to work. Because big company always will to make new technology, so I can early to know how is it work. I like new technology, so I will very enjoy this job. I can learn new things, and also I can try to make new things. I think this is very good plan for me, so I will keep learning and studying. When I am working, it will not make my work bored because I have fun in my work. It will make my life be more happy and interesting.

What makes you happy? What can you do to bring more happiness to your life?

I like try to do whatever can to make me happy thing. Learning new technology or playing games are things I like to do, and those can make me happy. Of course there are many things I do not like. Looking at books or fishing are things I do not like, so they will make me unhappy. How can I bring more happiness in my life? Of course I can to change those things I do not like to be my new hobby, and make me happy. Looking the book is very boring because there only words inside, so that will easy make me want to sleep. But now I change my mind: First I try to read a novel because there is more interesting story I can read. Also I made words to be a picture, then that will be like a movie in my mind. It is very fun when I think words to be a picture.
Fishing is very boring because that will take me more time to wait. One time I went with my friends, and that time change my mind to like fishing. We were talking when we were waiting for the fish, so the time was going very fast. Then I saw my fishing rod was jumping, so I hurried to pack it up to try get the fish. It was very excited when I held the fishing rod because fish wants to try to go away, and then I needed to fight with the fish to get it. When the fish get on, I feel very happy. So I like fishing now, and want to go with friends to have more fun. I will keep trying new things and those things I do not like. When I like one more thing, it means that it can make me happier and also change my life to be more fun.

How can you get the most out of your time at Butte College?

I will study in Butte College for two years, so I want to learn more things here. First thing is English because it is an international language, and also my major needs it a lot. Second is my major, computer science. I like computers, so I want to learn more skills to make myself be better.Language is not easy to learn, so English is hard for me because I am a second language speaker. I just take the class for one week, but I have difficult feeling now. I am taking math class this semester, and this class gives me a headache. There are many special words I never heard before such us right triangle, obtuse triangle, or isosceles triangle. Those words were the first time I heard about, so I can not understand what is teacher talks about. Of course I feel unconformable now, but I will keep trying to make myself be better. Then I can learn things easier and faster. Computer science is my major, and also I like computers. Computers make our lives more conformable, so I want to learn more skills to make computers be more powerful. Now they have many programs we can learn, but they have one system I really want to know. We call this system Linux, but it is very different system for Windows. I want to take more time to know this system, and then I can easier teach my friends how to use. I have a lot of things want to learn, of course not only English and computers. I will try my best to learning and studying, so I can make myself be better.

What are your goals and/or expectations for this semester?

This is my first semester studying in Butte College, so there are many things I can learn. First I want to learn more about writing skill, and also I need to practice my grammar. Those are important to me because we have many classes I need to write essays or paragraph. My English is not good; sometimes there has mistake or wrong that I need to focus and change. Essays are not easy to write, and there are many rules we need to watch out for. When the word tense is wrong, then the entire sentence will be very strange because people will be confused.
It is not easy to understand all the grammar, so people have to always think about that. There are many ways to remember the grammar. Like my friend told me he had take English class in his country, and the class just told them to recite all the grammar then gave them tests. But I think it is not good for people because grammar is always changing, sometimes it have special rules we need to think about. How can people remember all things? But I have another friend who told me a good way to learn the grammar. He told me just to write more essays or paragraph, and then read write the essay again. Then you can easy to understand the rules and remember it. So I will keep to writing the essay, and also focus my grammar to make sure all the rules are correct. When I need to write a long essay, I will not always have to worry about the grammar.
